Custom Fabric Test for JK Jersey

Wow what can I say, J K Jersey fabrics have got a winner with this round of custom fabrics!

It is my youngest boys turn to have something made up for him and him being him wanted everything! Leggings, t-shirt, pants and whatever else I could get out of it.
In the end he had Zane Leggings (pdf from Elliedactyl) and a long sleeved t-shirt using applique templates to reflect the fabric design.

Fabric pre wash

Fabric post wash, minimal colour loss, colour catcher is next to it and just has a very slight grey hue. Minimal shrinkage, just a few mm.

Fabric is soft and easy to work with. The recipient LOVED the design at first sight and wants to wear top and leggings all together all the time.

First up are the Elliedactyl Zane Joggers, he loves the slim fit but not the harem crotch so much so I redraft them for him so it's not so baggy - he doesn't do baggy, at 8 years old he will wear 5/6 year old jeans so they are spray on tight!
Plain black cuffs and yoga waistband tone down the rainbow of colour, with the large swoop rainbow stars at the front and rainbow stripes at the back. A perfect pattern to use up odd size scraps.

Next the t-shirt, this is a basic t-shirt with standard sleeves, I've used black for the body pieces then the sleeves are the rainbow drops with black cuffs. The applique (how much of a pain in the arse is knit to knit applique when you can find your fabric stabiliser!) reflects the shape of the rainbow drops, I had one at first but it looked too much like an apostrophe so I did 2 positioned nesting into each other and now it reminds me of the ying yang symbol.

A windy afternoon for a photo shoot but at least it was dry.
More pictures of the clothes in action.

Rubbing chamomile to see what it smelt like

I think there was a little creature trying to escape here!

We have had a crop of Horse Mushrooms pop up in our field, they were very tasty cooked in buttery garlic on toast.

The 4way stretch makes this fabric perfect for running in!
Next up with what is left is a pair of boxer pants for the eldest as apparently he doesn't have enough pairs?! I'll add the photo's when they are finished.

Photos are unedited taken in natural late afternoon light.

Drawing Wallet Giveaway

The first post and first giveaway on the new blog! As you can no longer do simple giveaways via facebook it has forced my hand and I have set up a blog for the business, something I have been meaning to do for a while so a positive thing and a job crossed off my ever growing to-do list....but now the list has 'edit new blog' tacked onto the bottom of it. This is a prototype of my new drawing wallet, I was testing how the pattern sizes worked in real life and thought it would be nice to give it away. There are 8 slots for crayons, chunky or 2 standard crayola types fit. There is also a little pocket for paper. I will include some paper and they are hole punched in the corner and tied with a piece of ribbon so they stay together or can be ripped off easily. These are perfect as gifts or keep one in your bag for those potentially stressful  moments in waiting rooms or cafes/restaurants/pubs when children need something to do, draw or play a game of hangman! Top Alternative Christmas Books for Younger Children

I've been thinking about the sometimes overwhelming gift giving season coming up and wanted to do a blog post about some alternatives to the mountains of plastic that line the shelves and catalogues. I'm a huge fan of books as gifts and some of the most beautiful stories are set in the winter season, these are perfect books as stocking fillers or just to have by the nature table to tie in with the seasons change. 1. Tomten and the Fox   - Astrid Lindgren 2. The Story of the Snow Children - Sibylle von Olfers 3. The Tomtes Christmas Porridge - Sven Nordqvist 4. Winter Story (Brambly Hedge) - Jill Barklem 5. The Tale of Jack Frost - David Melling  6. The Longest Night - Ted Lewin 7. The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits : A Christmas Story for Advent - Ulf Stark 8. The Winter Solstice - Ellen Jackson  Not a story book as such just a few tales about the Solstice from around the world and some information explaining how it happens. 9.

Fabric Strike Off Test For LLFAB

This time round I'm testing LLFAB's custom cotton Lycra print. My youngest was beside himself as he LOVES the film this print is inspired by. Print quality is good, fabric feels nice in the hand, only a cm lost after the initial pre' wash, subsequent washes haven't shown any noticeable shrinkage. pre wash pre wash post wash underneath, pre wash piece pinned on top post wash underneath, pre wash pinned on top post wash With custom prints such as these I prefer the fabric to do the talking with a simple pattern, plus I have boys so complex patterns with frills and flounce don't really appeal! They picked a t-shirt (with explicit instructions to make it a bit too big so it would 'last forever', and a pair of boxers. First up is the t-shirt, he chose which fabric for the arms and the back as we had a large panel for the front. T-shirt pattern is one of my own. Next up were the boxers, I used the Made By Jacks Mum
